What are Warts?
Typically found on hands and feet, warts are round, non-cancerous growths on the skin. A wart is a response to human papillomavirus (HPV) infecting the layer of skin. HPV is contagious, which means you can spread warts to other parts of the body or to another person. Children and teenagers are more likely to get warts than adults because their immune systems are still developing and may be less effective in fighting off HPV. Those who are immunocompromised are also more likely to get warts.
Warts can be smooth or rough, flat or raised; and while warts are often the same color as your skin, they can also be a darker brown. Different types of warts include common warts, filiform warts, flat warts, periungual warts, and plantar warts.
