Eczema Atopic Dermatitis

Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, is a common skin condition that causes red patches to appear on the skin, which can be dry, itchy and/or scaly. A person with eczema has a variation in their genes causing a breakdown in the skins barrier that prevents the skin from properly retaining moisture. This barrier dysfunction lends the skin unprotected from allergens, bacteria, and irritants.

While eczema can occur at any age, it is most common in children. There are many steps that can be taken to reduce the risk of an eczema outbreak.
