What is Skin Cancer?

Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the United States; however, it is treatable with early detection and regular skin screenings. Basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma are the two most common types of non-melanoma skin cancer due to prolonged sun exposure. Melanoma is the most serious type of skin cancer, and can be deadly if it spreads to other organs; yet, the recovery rate is one of the highest among all types of cancer when detected and treated early.

Treatment

DSCCA can help prevent and treat skin cancer by conducting regular skin screenings and educating patients on best practices for skin health and safety. Patients are encouraged to schedule a skin screening at least once a year. More frequent screenings may be recommended due to the patient’s history of skin cancer. During a skin screening, our providers will conduct a full-body examination, assess any moles, abnormal lesions, and/or skin discoloration, and perform any biopsies of suspicious areas, if necessary.
